Evaluating Writing and Providing Feedback

Page history last edited by Charlie Bakker 11 years, 7 months ago

Writing is so subjective, so how do we grade it? This is a common anxiety among teachers and a common question from both students and parents. However, writing is not as subjective as some might think. If good writing is communicating a point or relaying information clearly, identifying whether the student did, in fact, succeed and to what extend he or she succeeded is a bit more manageable.

The following section deals with grading student writing and can be divided into 3 parts:

Part I contains a general guide to evaluating writing.

Part II provides suggestions to consider when creating rubrics.

Part III focuses on how to provide useful feedback for student writing.
